We design & build creative, usable, technically outstanding web applications for great clients.
Abstrakt Ideas · Our blog on design, technology and new business.
We’ve just pushed live our first open source Wordpress plugin, it’s called Post Images and solved a problem we were having quite frequently. We tend to build image rich websites for our clients, everything from blog content to ecommerce items can all benefit from a good thumbnail image.
It helps the user find things problem, enhances the text content and generally adds a new level of excitement to any website. We also use Wordpress quite a lot, which has a really powerful image upload tool, making it really easy to upload great photos to great posts. It falls down however, when you, as a developer, are trying to display the images uploaded to a post in your template, without compromising on your lovingly crafted semantic markup.
So we built Post Images, which enables you to get the first imaged associated to a post (ordered by menu order, so users can just “drag and drop” to change the thumbnail) like so:
