Some sort of allusion to a Phoenix…

Abstraction is the process or result of generalization by reducing the information content of a concept or an observable phenomenon, typically to retain only information which is relevant for a particular purpose. It’s been quite a year for us. At the end of 2008, Chris Garrett Media was a one-man band, building great websites from a shed in Slimbridge. Early 2009 saw me taking on far too much work, taking on my first employees and relocating to Bristol (it’s where all the talent is, you know). We’ve worked on some massive projects this year for the likes of the BBC, English Table Tennis Association and most recently Aardman.

Since late 2008, we’ve been working with a Birmingham based communications agency, Substrakt. They’re a nice team and we’ve had great times working with them on some exciting projects. So when Substrakt wanted to expand, and we wanted to carry on working with them, the logical step seemed to be a merger of sorts. The headlines rolled, there were parties, and best of all we did some really exciting work, both for clients projects and our own products.

But lately, it’s become apparent that our goals, and Substrakt’s goals, just don’t align anymore. And they’re not goals that we can achieve together, so we’ve gone our separate ways, we’ve Abstracted from Substrakt so to speak. Substrakt has some great guys in it’s team and hopefully we’ll continue to work alongside them, making their offer extra special. But for now, we’re steaming ahead with some great projects for Aardman and The English Table Tennis Association, so stay tuned for some great portfolio updates over the next few weeks!

Oh yeah, forgot to say, we’re rising from the ashes! Harder, better, faster, stronger…
